The World Rowing Federation, FISA, has today confirmed the appointment of three more Australians to its Commissions. The new appointments, to the Umpiring, Para-Rowing and Events Commissions respectively, see Australia now represented across seven of FISA’s Commissions.
Rowing Australia (RA) Boat Race Official Nick Hunter has been appointed to the FISA Umpiring Commission, RA Para-Rowing Talent Development Coordinator Tara Huntly joins the FISA Para-Rowing Commission and RA Competition Manager – Events, Cameron Allen, will join the FISA Events Commission.
These three Rowing Australia representatives join Amber Halliday (Athletes Commission), Iain Brambell (Athletes Commission), Conny Draper (Equipment and Technology Commission), Warwick Marler (Rowing for All Commission) and Barbara Fenner (Youth Rowing Commission) as representatives of Australia within World Rowing.
Upon the announcement of the various appointments, RA Chairman, Rob Scott, said: “I’m delighted to see the appointment of three more Australians to FISA Commissions. The three selected join their respective colleagues in representing Australia in a global forum that is vital for the further development and growth of our sport.
“I wish to congratulate Nick, Tara and Cameron on their appointments which ensure that RA remains an influential and respected member of the international rowing community. Their representation on FISA’s Commissions further contributes to Rowing Australia’s goal of being the number one rowing nation in the world.”
Australian Boat Race Official and RA Umpires’ Commission member, Hunter, who is also an employee of the Australian Sports Commission, commented on his appointment: “After many years working in rowing both within my role at the Australian Sports Commission and as an Australia Boat Race Official, I am honoured and excited to take up my position on the FISA Umpiring Commission.
“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues from across the world to further develop umpiring at all levels of the sport.”
Australia who are currently number one in the world in Para-Rowing have had their expertise called upon to join the FISA Para-Rowing Commission with the appointment of RA employee Huntly.
Huntly, who works closely with Senior Coach Para-Rowing Gordon Marcks, was thrilled with the chance to work with her international colleagues. “I’m excited to be joining the FISA Para-Rowing Commission and continuing the great work started by my fellow Australian and departing Commission member, Shirley Stokes.
“I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues from across the globe to increase the profile and further develop this exciting aspect of our sport.”
RA’s Competition Manager – Events, Allen, who has worked across a number of events, including the Sydney International Rowing Regatta and the 2014 World Rowing Masters Regatta, said of his appointment: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working on two major World Rowing events hosted in Australia in the past year and I look forward to taking my learnings from those events, along with our domestic competitions, to the Commission and contributing to what I’m sure will be a lively and diverse group.”
All the appointments are until 31 December 2018.
